Is it possible to increase the RAM allocation in FTPro 5.7 running on MAC
OS 10.8.5? I'm trying to index a folder with approximately 350 GB of data
(mostly pdfs and MS Word files) and the index status has now increased the
estimated remaining time to 96 DAYS! The indexing has already been running
for several hours and it's only indexed about 7.7% of the files. No other
applications are running (beside from the basic OS, of course) and I'm
assuming increasing the RAM allocation would speed things up. If there is
any other tweak that can help, please let me know. Many thanks for your
help!!

No; RAM is dynamically allocated based on needs and available resources.
FoxTrot 7 (which requires macOS 10.12) has considerably improved indexing performance.
However there are some things you can do to resolve this issue; we are currently refining our online FAQ, but you can check a preliminary version of this question here:

Be sure to read "Make sure your data files are correctly parsed" and "Beware of certain types of PDF documents", as this is probably the cause of your problem.

Thank you for your prompt reply, Jérôme. I've reviewed the entire FAQ you
provided, paying special attention to the sections on parsing and trying
Xpdf. The files I'm trying to index are correctly parsed and Xpdf actually
took longer and returned worse results than the Spotlight default engine
when tried on a test file of approximately 3 GB.
Due to some unavoidable software and hardware limitations, I'm stuck with
OS X 10.8.5 on an older laptop, so I'm trying to find a way to speed up the
indexing using FTPro 5.7. If I index the data using FTPro 7 on another
machine running OS X 10.12, would I be able to copy the index into the
Foxtrot folder on my laptop and search it using FTPro 5.7?

No, the index format has changed since version 5, and it won't be able to use an index created with version 7.
The only thing I could suggest is to store your index on an SSD (internal or external) in case this is not already the case.
