Hello everyone,
I recently started using FoxTrot Professional Search and have been very impressed with its features and performance. However, I have several questions regarding its security and privacy aspects:
Since the app is not been download via Appstore, I could not find detailed information or an official privacy policy on the website (even the contact page is with no details about the creators of the app). Can you clarify whether FoxTrot transmits any data to third parties, and whether the company implements encryption or secure storage measures for indexed data?
Are there built-in security mechanisms (such as encrypted indexes or secure connections)? Does the company conduct regular security audits or penetration tests to ensure the software remains secure?
Since the software potentially has access to all files and text on my computer, how can I be certain that sensitive information—such as passwords or confidential documents—are not being transmitted or exposed to unauthorized parties?
How can I be sure that my work, especially if it contains sensitive or confidential material, will remain protected against data leaks or unauthorized access?
I would greatly appreciate any insights from the development team or experienced users. My goal is to make sure FoxTrot is safe to use in environments where data privacy is paramount.
Thank you in advance for your help,

Hello,
Thank you for your questions. Please review our living Privacy and Security policy, which addresses most these questions:
https://download.foxtrot-search.com/web/foxtrot-privacy-poli cy.pdf
to your points:
Can you clarify whether FoxTrot transmits any data to third parties:
We can indeed clarify that we do not ever send your indexed data to third parties.
Whether the company implements encryption or secure storage measures for indexed data? built-in security mechanisms (such as encrypted indexes):
Yes, this is an option to have an encrypted index (which will encrypt possible embedded documents as well) at index creation time. If you enable it later on, it will trigger an index rebuild
Are there built-in security mechanisms such as secure connections)?
Yes there are whenever using the client-server features (FoxTrot Search Server).
Does the company conduct regular security audits or penetration tests to ensure the software remains secure?
We regularly update those security libraries not linked dynamically from macOS, monitor their release notes, and extensively test all changes.
Thank you and kind regards,
