I used this:

/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Frameworks /LaunchServices.framework/Support/lsregister -f "/Applications/Scrivener.app"

With the leading slash and no spaces, and to be certain I used drag and drop with the Scrivener App instead of typing the file path.

You also need to have the slash before Applications in the filepath, or it will look in your ~User/Applications folder.
