Good day,

I am not certain whether the following is currently possible, but if not, I would appreciate it if the Foxtrot team could consider whether it might be a valuable addition.

First, I would like to suggest the ability to limit searches to specific page ranges within documents. When working with thousands of files, it is often the case that the information one is looking for appears on the cover page, title page, or table of contents. For example, when searching medical textbooks for material on open-heart surgery, I may only want results from pages 1–10 rather than every mention throughout the entire text. A feature that allows users to define page ranges could significantly improve search precision.

Second, I would like to revisit the topic of large language models (LLMs), which has been discussed previously. Personally, I am not interested in allowing an LLM to access my data. However, it could be helpful to have an integrated LLM assist with constructing more effective search strings—for example, by generating RegEx patterns or refining queries based on a natural language description. That said, I understand this may be too specialized to justify dedicated development.

Finally, I would like to mention a larger idea that may or may not already be under consideration. Offering a web-based interface in addition to the current platform could greatly enhance Foxtrot’s usability.

Thank you for creating such excellent software. It has significantly simplified my law studies and continues to be an essential tool in my workflow.

Kind regards,
Geiri

Limiting searches to the beginning of the documents is currently not possible, but this is an interesting request, and we will consider this in a future version. FoxTrot does not have any notion of "page", but it could optionally only consider the first n words of the documents. I am not sure if it would be useful to ignore the first n words, and only consider the words in the range [n - m]?

We still welcome any suggestion about LLM or IA related features, and we will also consider this one.

We do not plan any web interface at this time, as we focus on macOS.
