I got a notification from Foxtrot that my license has to be renewed, and that my current serial number has expired. Was I charged for this? I thought licenses were perpetual in the sense that we can own and use the Foxtrot version that we purchased the license for without time limit. For example, if we bought license for Foxtrot 8, aren't we able to use the same serial number to use Foxtrot 8 whenever we want?
Additional Context: I've purchased Foxtrot 8 within the last year, and have been using it without issue. I just updated MacOS (minor update) and Foxtrot is giving me a new license number, saying that the old one expired.
Please clarify.

The message you got was: "Your perpetual license for version 8 of FoxTrot entitles you to periodic automatic renewal of your serial number". So:
- your license for version 8 is actually perpetual, in the sense that you described
- the serial number must be renewed every year from our servers, at no additional cost

Thank you for the clarification. This is the first time I've seen this message, and it raised a lot of questions when I saw it for the first time. It might help to also include the following info in that pop-up screen, so that users are clear what's happening when they click "renew":
(1) The nature of the license they purchases, and whether it's perpetual or is it an annual subscription
(2) Any associated fee with renewing. Even if "no fee", it should be clear so that user is not in doubt.
(3) If possible, the general purpose of the annual renewal, and how it's necessary to improve user experience.
Thanks
