Just recently, after every key press in a search box, a dialog box comes up
with the error message:
*No file or folder has been indexed*
*Foxtrot will only find information within indexed folders.*
It makes searching very tedious because the dialog box comes up after every
single letter I type and I have to click OK to make the box go away before
I can type the next letter.
I've been using Foxtrot for months and not aware of doing anything
differently.
Any ideas?

Are you using FoxTrot Personal, or Professional?
It seems that "search as you type" is enabled in the preferences, and your index (or the currently selected index, in case of FT Professional) no longer contains any data; make sure that some folders are indexed, in the "Files" preference pane (FT Personal), or in the "indexed data" pane of the "manage indices" window (FT Professional).

I'm using Professional. The thing is, indexes do exist. Suppose the first
letter I type is 's'. The error message says nothing is indexed. I click OK
to get rid of the message, then I get a long list of files containing the
letter 's'. Then suppose, I type a second letter 't'. The error message
comes up again. After I dismiss the error message, I now get a long list of
files containing the letters 'st'. And so on.

Hello,
Have you tried disabling Search as you type as suggested ? Then if I were you I would rebuild the index to be on the safe side.

I disabled Search as you Type and Rebuilt all the Running Indexes. I still
get the error message but not until pressing Search.

You probably have multiple indices selected in the Sources list, one of them being empty. Either delete this index from the Manage Indices window, or add some folders to it.
