Dear William F
I presume when you hate the word „please“ automatically disappears from the active vocabulary.
If I were you I’d try to slide the thing with the little dot

down that pretty much should reduce your major source of hate.
Cheers,
Christian (a hateless user)

even if you slide it with the little dot, the panel will slide up again in
the next search.. so yes, i hate it and please disable it...

glad you feel no hate though, the world is always in need of people
redeeming UX haters with the power of love.

The original poster in this thread has a right to hate certain design decisions. But it's still up to the developer (not even the community) to decide how to balance the different interests. The job of the users is to scream when they feel pain, and the job of the developer is to decide which scream to listen to.

BTW, that panel is kind of annoying. I did hate it as well, but now I just tolerate it like graffiti on fine artwork. There seems to be no way to completely minimize it. I wish I could "pull left" and completely hide that panel 90% of time because I do not switch index or filter my searches most of the time (at least not by the choices given in that panel).

The categorization pane is an important feature of FoxTrot, and letting the user completely and permanently hide it would make some users forget it existence and usefulness. Additionally, the "n most relevant items" slider is also something that should always remain visible.

However, you can collapse some categorization types you don't use (author or language, for example) by clicking their header, to reclaim some space for the indices list. And this should be persistent.

thanks Jerome.. i think it would be nice to have the option to hide it.,
which wouldnt make users forget about it if it is ON by default. It's just
flexibility for the user, and less imposition by the software. My humble
opinion.
