I have seen reviews that say subfolder(s) can be excluded from the
index/search but I've looked in the online help, documentation and this
forum and I don't see anywhere that lists the steps or preference to
control that. I can see files can be blacklisted but not it seems a folder ?

Am I missing something obvious ?

You can't do this for "predefined locations", but only for "custom locations" (click the "+" button at the bottom of the locations list).
