I also migrated to Mailmate, which is an excellent product. It is the
spiritual successor to PowerMail the way PowerMail was, for me, the
spiritual successor to Claris Emailer.

It has its own excellent search, but you can also configure FoxTrot to
index Mailmate's mail.

I've imported many email archives into MailMate with no difficulty.
