Index on smb volumes works fine. BUT if the network is no longer available
(during business trip) the index shrink to the local volume. It would be
helpful if the index of the network volumes stay always on. Also if they
are not connected. As best the time how long the index will stay on can be
configurable (i.e. 2 weeks).

Sir,

This is conformant to design.

When you update the index, if the source data is no longer available on-line, then the indexer will consider that you no longer have access to the data and that it is deleted.

To work around this, create a separate index with your SMB data and make sure automatic indexing is turned OFF for that index. You can have an index for your local index with automatic reindex.

This way when you are on the move you will still have access to your indexed text from the SMB volume. Update the index manually once the volume is online.

In fact, when an indexed location (a folder, or a volume, directly in the "custom folders" list) is not found when the index is updated, its content is NOT removed from the index, because FoxTrot assumes that this folder / volume can be temporarily unaccessible.
Can you describe precisely, or send a screenshot, how is configured your index?
