Foxtrot ATTACHE: Hierarchical exception caught class=FoxT, what=9. when=2, err=0,name=Index [message #724] Thu, 26 April 2018 21:21 Go to next message

Hi

I just installed Foxtrot Attache on my iPad, have uploaded a large (23G)
index file and each time when I try to use it I get the message in the
header above. I have reindexed the files on my desktop computer, and
deleted and reinstalled Attache on my iPad and reuploaded the index file,
but nothing seems to work. Just to be sure that that basic system was OK I
also uploaded a much smaller file and it worked very well. The main file
works fine in my desktop, but I get nowhere on the iPad.

I purchased Attache specifically to access this large file.

This error code seems to indicate that your index file was in use by FoxTrot when you copied it to Attaché, and thus that it was not in a consistent state. Did you copied it using iTunes, while FoxTrot was running? If so, first quit FoxTrot (or stop the index, from the Manage Indices window) before coping.

Spotlight, and it was free" then think again. FoxTrot is instantaneous.
It lets you do those good boolean searches that Spotlight makes
impossible to do (or to remember how to do). I can't believe how fast
it finds Mail messages, and then shows me the subject line, mailbox
location, and the full text of the message in preview."

Thank you for the advice. I will try that. I have made a smaller file for testing and it uploads easily. I have a much more serious problem in that when I index files that are almost all pdfs, and check both boxes (to index and to make a copy of the docs for viewing), when I do this and then search all I get is a totally unformatted output with the odd highlighted word. I know that there would not be images or fancy formatting, but to have only words and words and no paragraphs or breaks makes it almost impossible to read and to use in any effective manner. I have taken this up with the support system (see file #LEHICY) and am being helped by jean michel, but if you have any ideas as to what is going on I would appreciate it.

As it stands, the main FT program (for the Mac) is a fantastic product; the one for the iPad is useless. I purchased this product to be able to search and write whilst away from my office; I cannot do that the way that attache is working now.

If you have ideas, please let me know, otherwise I will have to contact Apple to try and get a refund. (This is one instance where a trial product would be of immense value.)
