I just transferred my files to a new MacBook Pro (15" 2018) running MacOS
10.13.6 and I have been unable to get Foxtrot Professional to work.
Foxtrot does not link to the Hard Drive correctly but instead shows
"Localhost" in Search Sources which it cannot find.
I tried deleting all Foxtrot files in Applications and in the Library and
doing a clean re-install but it still won't work.
Any suggestions ?
Peter

Sir,
Due to the summer holiday recess, we are going to be much slower than usual in responding and I do apologize for that. This being said, what I would recommend using a new index altogether adding those folders that you wish to index and restarting your new Mac. I know it sounds silly, but his is what I would do case of a loss of connection between the application and ask her.
Let me know how you fare,
thank you and kind regards

Dear Jean Michael,
It won't let me create an index at all.
All I get is the word LocalHost where I would normally see the name of the hard drive.
Are there some preferences I could delete to do a clean reinstall. I already tried deleting the library files with no success.

I tried deleting all the Foxtrot files I could find and then doing a clean
install of first of Foxtrot Personal and subsequently of Foxtrot
Professional and in both cases it fails to index any files at all.
Apple Spotlight Search is working and the computer is running great, but
Foxtrot won't work at all and will not allow any Indexes to be created.
I also ran Apple Disk Utility to check that the hard drive is OK and I took
off the Apple Firewall but it made no difference.
Help please.

Hello,
This is extraordinary - we were puzzled and you found a solution that was, quite frankly, lateral.
Congratulations and thanks,

That is really interesting; yes, FoxTrot requires that "localhost" refers to your machine (i.e. 127.0.0.1 or ::1), and if your /etc/hosts file has been configured otherwise, this will prevent FoxTrot from working correctly.
May I ask how your /etc/hosts file got changed? Did you use some third party tool to configure apache? Which IP address had been assigned to localhost? Was this a consequence of an error or misconfiguration, or was there actually a real reason for localhost to be defined as something else?
I am asking this to understand if we should change something in FoxTrot to handle this situation, or if this situation should not have happened at all.
Thanks

I received a new MacBook Pro from Apple and I transferred my data and
applications from my old computer using Apple Migration Assistant.
Everything except FoxTrot appeared to transfer correctly including all my
settings and passwords.
I really don't know how the Hosts file became corrupted and I only found it
using the article referenced above.
I also found an error in the Library/Webserver/Documents folder that
contained two index.html files, one of which also appeared to be corrupted.
I corrected the html files manually.
Now typing 127.0.0.1 into any browser correctly pulls up the default web
page and Foxtrot works.
Peter.

Seems I spoke too soon - I now have another problem.
Pressing space bar does not open a file in the finder and double clicking
does not open the file.
I checked the preferences and they seem OK and Foxtrot correctly search for
files and displays information but it cannot locate or open the files.
Any suggestions or shall I try a clean system install ?

If you are searching a shared index (shared from FoxTrot Pro from another Mac, or from FoxTrot Server), then maybe "File Sharing Integration" is not correctly configured, in the "Sharing" pane of the sharing FoxTrot Pro / Server.
Otherwise, one possibility in your situation is that, when you moved your data from your previous Mac, you did not move them to the same location, for example if your home folder name has changed, or if your files where on an external disk or secondary partition whose name has changed etc. In this case, indexed folders that can no longer be found should appear in gray in the "Indexed Data" pane; remove them and add the folders from the new location.

"With FoxTrot I find files I do not find with Spotlight.
With FoxTrot I do not get swamped with 2000 found files in one bunch,
under "Documents" and now I have to scroll through a long list - with
FoxTrot I can quickly and easy narrow my search.
With FoxTrot with one click I can see a preview with the search term
highlighted.
One of the very important reasons I like FoxTrot is that it's results
seem so much more appropriate.
And searches in FoxTrot returns are almost instantly - way way faster
than in Spotlight"
