Hello everyone,
Thank you for the modest amount of feedback received, but folks, we do
need more just now: please install the 2.5b7 builds and give them a try,
a confirmation e-mail that they run decently would really be appreciated
at this point:
(server & admin - also now includes test version of Windows server with
installation instructions)
(client)
(personal version)
Many thanks,
jean michel/ctm qa

? FoxTrot Search Server could fail to start if the application has
previously been installed or run from another location.
? Added a french-language localization
? The "couldn't strip" warning on Leopard has been fixed

sources could be unchecked, when connecting to a new server

indices shared by this server
? The "couldn't strip" warning on Leopard has been fixed
? The ibtool error when using the Styled Text Field on Leopard has been fixed
2.5b6 - September 29th, 2009 (from 2.0.4)

Thanks Jean Michel,
The AppleScript issue seems to be fixed!
The memory leak issue is still there, if FTP does some heavy lifting,
it will take more than 1GB of RAM (I would have included an attachment
with a screen shot of Activity Monitor with the precise figures, but I
don't think I can do that through Google Groups).
Fortunately, with 2.5b7 you do not get that you get spontaneously
logged out, which I had earlier today with 2.5b6.

Rebuilding an index triggers the "Index has stopped" and "An error
occurred when starting the index" (error 999) messages. They should be
suppressed when the user chooses to rebuild an index.
When connecting to a FoxTrot Server there is an option to save user
name and password. That option is grayed out, it would be nice to be
able to save the login info.
I will let you know If I still have the same issues with the indexers
after they have run for a while.

Bonsoir,
Cordialement

FoxTrot does not know how is configured file sharing on your machine
(either on Mac OS X or on Mac OS X Server); you need setup the "file
sharing integration" pane so it will know how to locate files from the
client machine:
- "shared folder": indicate the share point, ie the folder that is
shared from System Preferences or from Mac OS X Server
- "volume name": indicate the name of this shared folder, as seen as a
network volume from the clients Finder.
- "Auto-mount URL": when the above volume is not already mounted by the
client, FoxTrot will propose the user it to mount it automatically when
the URL has been specified.

regularly). Third, searches are lightening fast, very impressive
facility. Fourth, it has a very nice filtering capability, at least
as strong as Entourage and probably stronger (my rules sets are fairly
straightforward). Fifth, it auto syncs with AddressBook without the
need for external scripts like in Entourage."

Bonjour,
Il me paraît
évident que si l'on donne des autorisations d'accès à un index
l'utilisateur DOIT pouvoir AUTOMATIQUEMENT prévisualiser les fichiers.
Et que les dossiers se monte sur le bureau de l'utilisateur.
Cordialement

When a user connects to a server with multiple indices, FoxTrot 2.5b7
also attempts a connection on the indices for which the user has no
access rights. This should fail, and the index should appear in gray in
the list of search sources. The user can't search on that index.
Is this correct? Or are you telling that the user can connect and search
an index for which he does not have access rights? In this case, this
user probably has admin privileges ("allow to administrate FoxTrot
Server" is checked for this user in the "sharing" pane of the server).
Admin users can administrate a server, and they can also connect to any
index, even when the index is not shared or the user has not explicit
access rights for it.
In the final version, indices for which a user has no access rights will
not be visible at all to this user.
If the index for which your user has access rights, contains references
to files for which this user has no access through file sharing or
Finder permissions, then there is a security issue: the user will see
these files in the search result. You should not include in an index
some files for which some users of the index should not have access.

We plan to try to enhance file sharing integration in a future version.
