HI,

Can we have more control over how modified a file has to be in order to be
indexed/updated?

For example, I accidentally moved an indexed folder into my iCloud Drive,
and then back again to its original place.

FTpro is now reindexing the whole folder when I click on Update.

The files themselves have not changed, prob just the metadata (date
modified etc)

Anyway, it is 1.35 TB of data and it will take many many many many hours to
complete the Update :(

Thanks

Moving or renaming a file should not change any of its dates, and thus should not make FoxTrot reindex it.
However, modifying some metadata (Finder tags, Finder comments…) change the "attributes modification date". I can't test this right now, but maybe moving a file to the iCloud Drive also changes this date.

There is a very hidden setting in FoxTrot to ignore this attributes modification date. The consequence would be that changing the Finder comments or tags on a file would not be reflected in the FoxTrot index, unless you actually modify the file itself.

To change this setting:

- in the "Manage Indices" window, double-click your index in the left pane, to reveal it in the Finder; alternatively, press the shift or option key in the Finder's "Go" menu to reveal the user's "Library" folder, then navigate to {home}/Library/FoxTrot

- quit FoxTrot

- right-click on your index in the finder, and choose "Show package contents"

- drag and drop to "Config" file to TextEdit

- change the value to true in the following line:
false

- save the file, and relaunch FoxTrot

"When Google Desktop was released I immediately downloaded it. I was
hoping to find something better than FoxTrot.
What I found was that it didn't find many files that FoxTrot does
find, and that the indexing process was uncontrollable, and it brought
my Dual-Core MacBook Pro to its knees. The computer was almost unusable
while it was being indexed.
I understand that they have brought out a new version, but I have
deleted it from my disk (and have turned off Spotlight indexing in the
FoxTrot preference panel).
I don't often need an indexed search of my disk, but when I do, FoxTrot
is hands down the best."

Perfect!

Thanks very much. Perhaps this is an option that could be added the
preferences for each index or for the program overall.
