Hello Forum,
how does Foxtrot Search work over VPN. Foxtrot Server is running in headquarters (where als NAS-fileserver is located). Users are trying to access the search index and the previews over VPN from different locations, including locations where they have no access to configure router and forward ports.
Is the search over VPN then possible? How?

As long as your VPN automatically tunnels all network connections and protocols (including SMB, Bonjour, and other private TCP protocols, like FoxTrot's) to your server, there should be no special configuration, neither on the server or on the client side.
If your VPN does not support Bonjour (but does support SMB and other private TCP protocols), then you will need to check "also enable access using a fixed port" in FoxTrot Server (or in FoxTrot Admin's sharing pane, when the server (as opposed to an index) is selected in the left pane); then on the client side, manually connect to the server using the menu file / connect to server. If you use the default fixed port (50000), you only need to specify the server's hostname or IP address; if you use another port, append the port number after a colon (e.g. "server.domain.com:12345").
In case NAT forwarding is used (which is probably not the case in your situation, as your VPN is probably configured to tunnel directly to your server), then you also need to enable "use a fixed TCP/IP port range for the indices" in FoxTrot Admin, and configure your NAT server to route both the server's port, and the indices port range.
