Using 8.0.3 FTP. When I right-click a file in search results, the options "Open with external application" and "Open with" don't work. I have to hunt the file down using the path statement in order to open it. Need a fix if anybody has one.

Does the "reveal in finder" command work? Maybe some folder in the path have been renamed or moved? Or, if the file is on an external drive or network volume, maybe it has been mounted to a different filesystem path (this sometimes happen and although the Finder shows the normal volume name, the actual filesystem path is something like "VolumeName-2"

The "reveal in finder" command does not work either. Shows the file name grayed out. I have updated the index, so any file path should be correct, shouldn't it? Plus I follow the file path when I manually access the file and it is accurate.

Drag the file from FoxTrot's results to a plain text TextEdit window; do the same from the Finder. Are the paths identical? Do they contain some non-ascii characters (this should be OK, but if the files are stored on a non-APFS nor HFS+ drive, maybe there are some situations where some special characters could cause some problems)

If the files are on an external or network drive, and this drive has been unmounted and remounted since the last indexation, it is technically possible that mounting path has changed.

Further update: I moved all my Scrivener and Word files into a single folder (with sub folders) on the desktop and had FTP reindex everything. Now "Open With" works just fine to open both filetypes.
